As part of educational activities intended for the widest possible audience, so-called university extensions – lectures by university professors and other educators – were organized from the end of the 19th century. These events were organized in Opava, Moravian Ostrava, and other towns in North Moravia. The text reconstructs the group of speakers and the topics presented to the audience.

KONFISKOVANÉ OBRAZY. OSUD MOBILIÁŘŮ SLEZSKÝCH ZÁMKŮ A JEJICH CESTA DO SBÍRKY SLEZSKÉHO ZEMSKÉHO MUZEA

Confiscated Paintings. The Fate of Contents of Silesian Chateaux and their Journey to the Collection of the Silesian Museum

The fine arts collection of the Silesian Museumin Opava comprises around 40,000 items, wherein almost 6,000 of them are listed as confiscated property, often without further specification. Provenance research, i.e. the effort to trace the provenance and mobility of a work and its owners in the past, has become a focus of interest for art historians in recent years, both in the Czech Republic and abroad. This research, long associated primarily with Jewish property looted by the Nazis during the war, is now also turning its attention to the transfer of works of art after 1945. The objective of this study was to examine the implementation of Decree No. 12/1945 Coll., which nationalized agricultural property, including large estates and chateaux with their interior contents, in the geographical region of Silesia and Northern Moravia. And above all, to map the processes by which works of art belonging to the nobility ended up in the SZM collection.

SBÍRKA MUZEA TATRA KOPŘIVNICE Z POHLEDU PAMÁTKOVÉ PÉČE

Collection of Museum Tatra Kopřivnice from the Viewpoint of Historic Preservation

Miloš Matěj

DOI 10.69108/cszm-b.2025.1.03
The Tatra vehicle manufacturer is one of the significant historical, technical and cultural phenomena of the region. A number of historical firsts and technical innovations were so significant that, at the turn of the 1950s and 1960s, it was possible to build up and further develop a collection of prototype cars, chassis and engines. The collection is now not only kept in the central collection register (CES), but its larger part is also registered as cultural monuments under the protection of the Act on State Monument Care. Unfortunately, in the 1990s, several renovations took place, the course and results of which do not correspond to the contemporary approach to the restoration of historic cars in the sense of the so-called Charter of Turin. The contribution thus aims to analyze and systematize the authentic value of individual collection items and exhibits and to propose a conceptual approach to the collection as a whole and its most significant individual items.
